Dato’ Dr Khalid Ibrahim, a distinguished doctor in the field of healthcare, obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Malaya between 1980 and 1985. He commenced his career as a Medical Officer at Hospital Kota Bharu in Kelantan, later embarking on a journey of advanced studies and expertise by pursuing a Master’s degree in Hospital and Health Service Management at South Bank University London from 1995 to 1996. His dedication to healthcare administration and leadership led him to serve as Hospital Director at two significant institutions: Hospital Tanah Merah from 1997 to 2006 and Hospital Sungai Buloh from 2007 to 2018. In 2018, he achieved the prestigious position of Selangor State Health Director. Dato Dr. Khalid’s influence extends beyond administrative roles, as he is renowned as a motivational speaker and a leadership trainer for the Ministry of Health (MOH), actively participating in national-level quality programs. He further amplifies his impact as the Chairman of various steering committees within MOH. Notably, he spearheaded the development of a groundbreaking program for MOH, the “Ibadah Friendly Hospital and Spiritual Care,” aiming to integrate spirituality into hospital settings. Beyond his national contributions, Dato Dr. Khalid is actively engaged in international humanitarian aid efforts, demonstrating his commitment to global health and well-being.

Dr Helmy Nadine Haja Mydin

Dr. Helmy Haja Mydin is a well-respected and renowned Consultant Respiratory Physician and the Head of The Lung Centre at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where he spearheads cutting-edge clinical care in respiratory medicine. A Newcastle University graduate, he underwent specialist training in the United Kingdom prior to returning to Malaysia as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Universiti Malaya, Malaysia’s oldest and most distinguished university.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), Dr. Helmy’s clinical expertise is complemented by his unwavering commitment to healthcare advocacy and policy reform.
As the co-founder and CEO of Asthma Malaysia, Dr. Helmy has been a driving force in elevating public awareness and education on asthma care, ensuring that patients across Malaysia have access to vital resources and support. His advocacy extends into broader healthcare and socio-economic policies through the Social & Economic Research Initiative (SERI), which he founded and continues to shape as a Chairman. SERI’s work in policy research is crucial, focusing on matters of inequality such as the digital divide and the gender gap.
As Technical Advisor to the Health Minister in 2021-2022, Dr Helmy led the development of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill for Parliament. As Special Advisor to the Health Minister from 2022 to 2023, he was responsible for liaising with stakeholders on issues of government policy, assisting in ministerial and ministry matters, contributing to policy planning and development as well as providing guidance and feedback on strategic communications. This culminated in the acceptance of the Health White Paper by Parliament, which is set to shape the future of Malaysia’s healthcare system.
